Children often wet the bed so here are a few quick tips to clean the mattress.
Soak up excess moisture with a large towel. Sprinkle with bicarbonate of soda and allow to dry overnight. Vaccuum up the powder.
Spray with white vinegar. Mop until just damp. Treat with bicarbonate of soda as above.
Use an enzmatic cleaner. A dog or cat urine remover from a pet store works on human as well as animal urine. Other enzmatic cleaners are available, check online. Finish with bicarbonate of soda and vacuum.
If a stain is dry you can dap a little hydrogen peroxide on the stain to fade it. Be careful not to use too much or you may fade the color of the mattress. Vacuum.
Borax can be used instead of hydrogen peroxide. Dampen the stain and gently rub with a little Borax. Allow to dry and vacuum.
Although none of these treatments are very harsh, a child's skin is sensitive. If you have any doubts, do not use. We do not accept liability for any actions taken.

We also do our cleaning of our mattresses, and it's not really a problem. But whenever we have a visit from our trusted carpet cleaners (Indianapolis, IN based), we tell them to clean our upholstery and mattresses as well. Amazingly, it's part of their services.
In fact, we also ask for cleaning tips from them, and they're kind enough to give. I hope that all the mothers like me out there also know that there's more to carpet cleaning. Indianapolis would be a better place if not only carpets but also mattresses and upholstery are clean.
